aico compactAico’s highly popular Loftcap, designed to overcome thermal and vapour transmission to loft voids after the fitting of downlights into a ceiling, has a compact new addition designed specifically for use with smaller downlights.

Both the new cone shaped Loftcap and the original solid dome shaped Loftcap fit over the top of a downlight and are quick and simple to install. Because they are lightweight, they add no significant load on the ceiling but are rigid enough to allow loft insulation to be laid directly over them.

There is no danger of the lamp overheating as Loftcap maintains sufficient air space around the light fitting.

A multi functional product, Loftcap offers developers, installers and end users a number of key benefits.

Firstly, Loftcap helps reduce the risk of fire by keeping combustibles away from the hot downlight.

Secondly, Loftcap has been successfully fire tested to BS 476: Pt.21, providing a good level of protection against the spread of fire through the opening in the ceiling made for the downlight.

But most importantly – certainly for developers – Loftcap provides a simple and cost effective solution to Building Regulations compliance. Building Regulations Approved Document L calls for uninterrupted coverage of thermal insulation in loft spaces to minimise heat loss; Part L2 requires buildings to meet a minimum air tightness performance to reduce carbon emissions; and Building Regulations Approved Document C calls for a vapour seal between the living space and the loft space to prevent condensation forming on roof timbers and causing premature rotting. Loftcap has been designed to limit drafts, improve air tightness and reduce moist air flow, providing a simple solution to all these requirements in just one product.

In fact, Loftcap has been successfully pressure tested for internal air leakage in a building and was found to create a perfect seal with zero air leakage, reinstating the air tightness of the ceiling to that prior to fitting downlights.

Of course, this has the added benefit for the resident of reducing energy costs by helping to prevent heat loss and to meet insurer’s requirements by preventing damage to roof timbers.

Manufactured from inert mineral fibres and organic binders, Loftcaps are rot, corrosion and vermin resistant, non combustible, non-electrically conductive and entirely maintenance free.

Loftcaps are approved by the Lighting Association and NHBC.
