Global solar PV installations will reach 24 GW in 2011 according to a new report from IMS Research. The report found that despite the relatively weak start to the year, installations will rise by 24% in 2011 to reach 24 GW, up from 19 GW in 2010. The research also revealed that European installations will rise by just 3% this year and that Italy will displace Germany as the world’s largest market.

PV component profits are set to fall by 70% year-on-year in Q4 2011 according to new analysis from IMS Research. The market research firm’s analysis of the polysilicon, wafer, cell, module and inverter industries found that that collapsing prices throughout 2011 will cause gross margins for the whole PV industry combined to slide by 17 percentage points to just 12.4% in Q4 2011.

New analysis by Engensa, the UK’s fastest-growing solar energy company, finds that the UK’s Feed-in Tariff (FiT) will create 10,000 green jobs by early 2012.

The UK panel builders market is currently estimated to be worth £500 million at manufacturers selling prices (MSP) in 2010.

Solar energy holds high potential for utility-scale power generation. It is estimated that solar energy received by the earth in a year, has the potential to provide 1,000 times of total annual world energy consumption, though it contributes only 0.02% of world's total power, as the technology continues to be predominantly unexplored.

The UK ventilation and air conditioning market is estimated to be worth some £0.95 billion in 2009, having declined by an estimated 17% in the 2008-2009 period. The core product sectors include air conditioning, with an estimated 52% share, ventilation with a 19% share and accessories with the balance.
